16th century style leather doublet with ruched sleeves. Buttons up the front. There are two padded pieces in the front to give the rounded shape of this period: these can easily be unstitched and removed.

This is a decommissioned costume from Royal Opera House, London for productions of Othello. Othello is set during the Ottoman-Venetian War of 1570-1573 and this was part of a costume for a soldier.

Probably made late 1990s - early 2000s. A more modern example of opera costume. I love the shape and the sleeves. So great!

Measures: 19" underarm to underarm, 15" across the shoulders, 25 1/2" sleeves, 18 1/2” from top of shoulder to waist seam, 27” from neck to longest point at the front, 17” across the waist

Great condition overall. There is one area on the top right shoulder whereby the top surface of the leather has been damaged. with a scuff. Some of the stitching on the button holes has come loose and the edges of the leather are raw and so could do with reinforcing into place. It’s not fully lined as a regular day wear jacket would be, as it’s costume there is cotton backing to the leather but the edges of the leather panels are exposed with stitching inside. The sleeves are lined.
