1910s French Opera Costume Green Wool Heraldic Lion Medieval Chainmail Theatre Paris Mathieu Solatges

Incredible c.1910s costume made for opera by costumiers Mathieu & Solatges, 18 Rue Laffitte, Paris. Medieval style tunic. Green wool with padded 22” cream and green striped panel sleeves and cream trim at the hem. Chainmail lower hem. Covered buttons up the back. The central lion motif is amazing and such a good design. Linen lined.

Measures: 22” underarm to underarm, 18” across the shoulders, 21 1/2” across the waist, 40” long from top of the shoulder to hem, not including the chainmail.

Condition: great overall. This has not been laundered. Some stains or marks on the cream hem. Some small moth nibbles and small holes. A very few metal links missing. Some of the button holes have split at the edge or are very close to splitting so they could do with strengthening with some stitches.
