1920s 1930s Transylvanian folk waistcoat with black soutache decoration

Circa 1920s–1930s folk waistcoat from Transylvania. Made from a soft, lightweight fabric that feels like fine wool or cotton moleskin, lined in striped cotton with one inside pocket.

Decorated with applied black soutache and braided trim in dense geometric and scrolling patterns across the front and back.

Measurements

Chest (underarm to underarm): 18 in / 46 cm

Shoulder to shoulder: 15 in / 38 cm

Length (neck to hem): 18 in / 46 cm

Condition

Freshly laundered. Lining has marks, holes and general wear, with one rust mark on the lower back as shown. Some discolouration throughout. General wear consistent with age and use.
