1920s–30s French Leather Breeches – Possibly Pilot’s Trousers

A rare and beautifully made pair of French leather breeches dating from the 1920s to early 1930s. Crafted from supple, deep brown leather, these trousers combine function and style—designed for active use but with real attention to cut and detail.

They were found in France and were reportedly owned by a pilot, which fits with the construction: high-rise fit with an adjustable cinch-back, angled front pockets for ease of access, a back pocket, and buttoned calves for a snug fit under boots. These features made them practical for aviation, early motoring, horseback riding, or military service. The interwar period saw a rise in aviation as both a civilian pursuit and military profession, and garments like these were often custom-made or issued to suit specific technical needs.

Leather breeches like these were favored by pilots and motorcyclists alike for their wind resistance and durability. By the late 1920s, aviation attire was evolving into its own distinct style—part functional gear, part aspirational fashion statement—often influencing civilian dress in the process.

Measurements:

Waist: 31”–33” (adjustable)
