1920s 30s Transylvanian folk waistcoat with black soutache decoration

Circa 1920s–1930s folk waistcoat from Transylvania. Made from a soft, lightweight fabric that feels like fine wool or cotton moleskin, lined in striped cotton with one inside pocket.

Decorated with applied black soutache and braided trim in dense geometric and scrolling patterns across the front and back.

Measurements

Chest (underarm to underarm): 19 in / 48 cm

Shoulder to shoulder: 14.5 in / 37 cm

Length (neck to hem): 18 in / 46 cm

Condition

Freshly laundered. Marks and rust stains to the lining. Some fraying and breaks to the edge braid, and small holes at the edge of the lining. General wear consistent with age and use, but the piece remains strong and full of character.
