1930s Transylvanian Folk Blouse Shirt Weave Crochet Pleats Traditional Romanian Linen Eastern European

C1930s Transylvanian folk blouse. Acquired from my travels in the Carpathian Mountains. 

Homespun linen. Really lovely pleated bib up the front. White glass buttons. Trapeze shape with balloon sleeves. Very small cutout or open weave sections around the collar, across the shoulders, cuffs and hem. The embroidery on these areas is in a peachy colour. Gathered pleats at the back of the neck, on the shoulders, base of the front panels and cuffs. Crochet trim at the hem.

There are embroidered motif stitches across the shoulders, collar and on the cuffs: these are symbols and hold meaning within Transylvanian culture. A really wonderful example of this style of traditional men’s folk blouse which would have been worn with wide cropped linen trousers. 

Small size. The best guide to check on these is the collar and shoulder to underarm measurement. Compare to a shirt which fits you well. They come up small in these areas.

Measures: 20” ” underarm to underarm, 8 1/2” from shoulder to underarm, 21” sleeves, 18”  across the shoulders, 23” long in the body, 13 1/2” collar

Great condition. Freshly laundered. light natural wear and small bobble imperfections in the weave. One button is broken on the cuff.
