1940s Indigo Cotton Folk Skirt Apron Smocking Pleats

C.1940s Slovakian indigo cotton apron. This is a piece of traditional folk costume. Pleated smocking technique with brightly coloured blue, green and purple decorative stitching. The lower section of the apron has four levels of piping which help give the skirt a full shape.

Measurements: 32” waist, 29” long

Great condition overall. Some of the piping has the insured cotton underneath picking though in very small areas. Velvet pieces have been added as ties: these have wear and appear to have been cut quite crudely from scraps and added.
