Antique c.1910s French Opera Costume | Renaissance Revival Tunic | Aristide Boyer Marseille | Black Velvet & Gold Lamé
An extraordinary piece of early 20th century French costume design, this Renaissance-style opera tunic—created by the renowned Aristide Boyer costumier of Marseille—is a rare treasure of theatrical history.
Made from rich black velvet with a wide revere collar in shimmering gold lamé, the tunic features incredible Renaissance-style sleeves: slashed panels of velvet edged in metallic gold ribbon reveal vivid peacock blue silk beneath. The gauzy white cotton cuffs are trimmed with domed gold buttons, echoed at the front closure, where darker buttons remain hidden in the lower half.
The tunic opens fully like a jacket and is fully lined. The maker’s stamp, Aristide Boyer, Marseille, is clearly visible inside—a mark of quality and artistry.
