Antique 19th Century French Black Silk Velvet Bodice Lilac Silk Trim Beading Renaissance Style Theatre Opera Costume

Incredible 19th century French costume bodice in a Renaissance style. Black silk velvet with lilac sateen cotton sleeve interior and trim. The lining on the open sleeve panels is a lovely glazed purple cotton. Gauzy cotton ruffle collar and cuffs. Black beaded trim. Faceted black buttons on the cuffs. Two buttons on the fro of the shoulders where a cape was probably attached. Constructed to a very high standard. This is a wonderful treasure.

Measures: 20” underarm to underarm, 17” shoulders, 9” arm opening at the shoulder to underarm, 22” sleeves, 21” long in the body

Condition: great overall. Some of the beading is a little loose but overall it’s fine. A strong and wearable piece. It’s not been laundered and the velvet has some slight surface marks.
