19th century German full-length sleeveless cloak, known as a Hockmantel. Constructed from exceptional quality warm brown printed cotton with a small repeating floral motif. The cotton has notable weight and body, creating a strong, sculptural silhouette.
Dramatic standing collar with dense, tightly worked ruching. Fastens at the neck with a metal hook and eye.
Made in two full layers. The outer printed cotton layer is unlined. Beneath this sits a complete inner layer lined in softly woven wool flannel. Entirely hand stitched throughout. Generous cut through the body with tiered construction, giving the cloak its distinctive volume and fall.
Traditional outer garment worn in German-speaking regions during the 19th century, combining practical warmth with striking form.
