Early 1900s French opera costume, constructed in wool and fully cotton lined, entirely hand sewn. The wool ground is decorated with floral motifs, printed or possibly hand painted, paired with a strong geometric border at the collar and hem. The collar features a structured band with scrolling inner motifs, echoed by a wide geometric band at the hem. All decorative elements are outlined with gold metal ribbon trim.

The dress fastens at the back with concealed buttons, with a single button closure at each cuff. The lining is cotton and hand stitched throughout, with visible hand quilting following the surface motifs. Handwritten performer names remain present inside the lining, providing a direct link to its theatrical use.

The bold graphic ornament, handcrafted finish, and combination of folkloric geometry and flowing floral motifs strongly reflect the artistic language seen in early 1900s stage and ballet design, including work associated with Ballets Russes productions of the period.
