c.1910s French Theatre Costume Tunic Dress – Medieval / Renaissance Style by Aristide Boyer, Marseille
Exceptional c.1910s French theatre costume in a rich medieval or Renaissance-inspired design. This tunic dress is beautifully hand-stitched, with standout sleeve and cuff construction and yellow appliqué bow motifs on the skirt. The upper body is lined in grey cotton twill; the skirt is lined in glazed brown cotton, except for two later replacement panels that are unlined. Closes up the back with buttons.
Crafted by Aristide Boyer of Marseille, a known name in historical costume production. This is the last of several similar pieces I’ve come across—an increasingly rare find.
