Antique French Theatre Opera Costume Hose Shorts Renaissance Style Slash Poke

Antique 19th century French Renaissance style hose. White cotton base with  fawn brown strip panels trimmed with gold metal ribbon trim. Red silk velvet appliqué represents the slash and poke style which was popular in clothing of the medieval and Renaissance period. Really nice worn patina. Bone buttons on the fly and one on the waist. Linen lined. Hand stitched. 

These are a wonderful piece of costume history. A beautiful treasure to wear and/or display.

Measurements: 26” - 30” waistband which cinches in at the back with a metal buckle. 9” across the leg opening (double for full circumference).14 1/2” rise, 36”  hip.

Condition: These have been laundered by hand using cold water and a gentle detergent. There are blue and pink stains across the front. There are holes in the brown strip panels.
