Antique 1910s 20s French Clown Costume Pierrot Brown Striped Silk Velvet Green Silk Appliqué Diamonds Clubs Hearts Spades Sequins Lace

A very special treasure! 

1910s - 20s French silk clown costume. Hand stitched brown stripes silk velvet with striped cotton lining. Appliqué card motifs. The whole suit is embellished with green silk ruffles and green and silver sequins. Beaded trim on the shoulders. The buttons are brass with colourful enamel painting. It fastens with buttons underneath. There are slit openings in the sides but these aren’t lined with pockets. Lace trim on the cuffs. 

Great for occasional and careful wear and or for display. A wonderful piece of wearable history: full of magic and wonder.

Measurements: 21 1/2” underarm to underarm, 37” from top of the neck to crotch, 48” from top of neck to the ankle hem (not including lace trim), 17 1/2” across the shoulders, 21” sleeves (not including lace trim)

Condition: overall good. There is quite a lot of surface wear and the velvet pile is missing in those areas. The lace trim is ripped on the left cuff. The main part which needs repairing attention is the crotch: it is split and needs sewing.
