A pair of early 19th-century white cotton trousers, entirely hand-stitched and finished with bone buttons. High-waisted with a full button fly, angled side pockets, and a gently tapered leg. The back waistband features adjustment tabs, though the buckle is now missing.
They show a great surface patina created by rust-toned staining across the fabric. This natural ageing adds a rich visual texture and depth to the piece, enhancing its historical character and presence.
Condition:
They have been freshly laundered and remain structurally sound. The fabric shows widespread rust-toned staining, which contributes to a strong and attractive aged patina. There is a tear at the top edge of the left pocket, and noticeable fraying with some tearing at the hems. The back waist adjustment tabs are intact, though the metal buckle that would have fastened them is missing. A small piece of fabric from the interior fly area has been cut away, which once would have connected to two remaining interior buttons. Overall, the condition reflects age and use while preserving the integrity and historical quality of the garment.
Size: As with most antique garments, these do not match modern tailoring standards — a women’s UK 10 / US 6 might wear them more relaxed, while a UK 12 / US 8 could be closer to fitted.
