Antique 1910s 20s French Clown Costume Pierrot Silk Gold Metal Ribbon Trim Sequins Moon Lace

A very special treasure! 

1910s - 20s French silk clown costume. Hand stitched black silk with brown cotton lining. Appliqué moons on the legs. The whole suit is embellished with gold metal ribbon trim, lace and sequins. The buttons are embossed with 18th century hunting scene: they are brass backed with a ring attachment. Fastens up the front with covered buttons. Lovely long overhanging panels from the shoulders which point like a collar at the front and hang low at the back. Two pockets at the sides. 

Great for occasional and careful wear and or for display. A wonderful piece of wearable history: full of magic and wonder.

Measurements: 25” underarm to underarm, 31” from top of the neck to crotch, 52” from top of neck to the ankle hem, 17 1/2” across the shoulders, 28 1/2” sleeves (including shaped point on the cuff)

Condition: overall good. There are few small holes in the silk and some thinning. There is a hole with thinning in the back of the right arm. There are missing sequins and some loose areas of trim. There are some small marks which show slightly on the appliqué moons. The sequins are antique and so will be the old style gel which do melt if they are washed at all. All the button holes have broken and need repairing with some stitches.
