16th Century Style Leather Doublet Jacket Royal Opera House Costume Brown Ruched Sleeves Renaissance Medieval
16th century style leather doublet with ruched sleeves. Buttons up the front. Nice patina with some leather patching at the underarms.
This is a decommissioned costume from Royal Opera House, London for productions of Othello. Othello is set during the Ottoman-Venetian War of 1570-1573 and this was part of a costume for a soldier.
Probably made late 1990s - early 2000s. A more modern example of opera costume. I love the shape and the sleeves. So great!
Measures: 22”" underarm to underarm, 17 1/2” across the shoulders, 24 1/2" sleeves, 17” from top of shoulder to waist seam, 25 1/2” from neck to longest point at the front.
Great condition overall. The underarms have been patched with some slightly different colour leather. The right shoulder sleeve seam has come unstitched a little, at the tip of the shoulder covering area. It’s not fully lined as a regular day wear jacket would be, as it’s costume there is cotton backing to the leather but the edges of the leather panels are exposed with stitching inside. The sleeves are lined.
