19th century antique French theatre opera costume jacket, Renaissance style blue silk velvet silver metal trim

Antique 19th century French theatre Opera costume jacket. Made in a renaissance style with the front motifs referring to the slash and poke technique which was a popular style for clothing during the renaissance period. Lovely shade of blue silk velvet embellished with silver metal ribbon trim. The tops of the shoulders have padded panels trimmed with striped silver metal ribbon trim. Fully lining cotton. There is a lovely handwritten number 73 on a little piece of cotton fabric sewn into the neck. The cuffs are trimmed with a gauzy white cotton.

A wonderful treasure to wear and display.

Measurements: 18 inches underarm to underarm, 17 inches across the shoulders, 17 inches long in the body, 7 inches from shoulder to under arm, 20 1/2 inch sleeves

Condition: This has been freshly washed using cold water and a gentle detergent. There is lots of colour fade and some small rust marks. The front motives would’ve been filled with red silk, but this is mostly ripped and missing, with just has a few small pieces remaining. The gauzy white cotton trim on the cuffs is torn in places.
