Really lovely pair of late 19th century to early 1900s, French Theatre costume breaches. Made by the costumier Aristide Boyer based in Marseille, France. These have been made to a very high standard and this costume house often reuses original pieces or elements of clothing from the 1800s or earlier. These are sometimes reworked in places or have additional buttons added and all the lining changed. Therefore some difficult to tell exactly which period they were made.

The fabric is a silk velvet in an orangey brown tone. The velvet seems to glow in areas and has a nice reflective quality. They are the flap down front style lined in cotton. The ankles have three covered buttons and a metal buckle..

Measurements: 36 inch waist, 12 1/2 inch rise, 16 inch inseam

Condition: overall very good. These have been cold washed by hand. There are some repair stitches next to the bottom holes on the left ankle. There is a small break which has made a hole next to the lower left front flap. There has been a break at the back seam which has been repaired, but still has a couple of holes. The crotch has some surface wear to the velvet as shown.
