Antique French Brown Teddy Cotton Velvet Breeches Theatre Opéra Pants Trousers

Really lovely pair of late 19th century to early 1900s, French Theatre costume breaches. Made by the costumier Aristide Boyer based in Marseille, France. These have been made to a very high standard and this costume house often reuses original pieces or elements of clothing from the 1800s or earlier. These are sometimes reworked in places or have additional buttons added and all the lining changed. Therefore some difficult to tell exactly which period they were made.

The fabric is a plush cotton velvet in a toffee brown tone. They are very high waisted with a long rise, and have a button fly. Further buttons for suspenders or braces at the waist. The ankles have two metal 19th century buttons. Fully lined in cotton.

Measurements: 31 to 34 inch waist, 15 1/2 inch rise, 17 1/2 inch inseam

Condition: overall very good. These have been cold washed by hand. I can see one or two areas are very slight surface wear which look like possible moth nibbles, but nothing major. They have been taken in at the waist with some stitches that can easily be removed to add a couple of inches if need.
