Antique French Theatre Costume Jacket Brown Cotton Teal Blue Woven Trim Metal Embossed Buttons 18th Century Frock Coat

Amazing antique c.1900 French jacket made for opera costume I’m an 18th century style. Soft toffee brown cotton (possibly wool blend) with wide turn back cuffs. Dark teal blue woven ribbon appliqués resemble button holes. These and the embossed metal buttons and pocket covers are just for decoration. The fabric on the cuffs appears to be perhaps 18th century block printed floral cotton. Fully lined and includes the costumier stamp ‘Aristide Boyer, Marseille.’

Such a beautiful and wearable treasure.

Measures: 19” underarm to underarm, 8” arm opening at the shoulder to underarm, 23” sleeves, 29” long in the body

Great condition overall. Freshly laundered. There are three very small lighter spots on the arm, front edge and on the collar - barely noticeable but worth pointing out. There is some light surface wear to the fabric at the underarms and lower sleeves. The fabric seems to have been patched on the right arm. And lower front but maybe this is just how it was made. There is a small stitched repairs on the lower left, inner sleeve (next to the seam). There are a couple of small rust stains on the chintz fabric cuffs.
