Exquisite 19th Century Gold Embellished Cream Wool Tunic French Opera Costume Metal Trim Centurion Roman

Late 19th century cream wool tunic with gold metal thread, faceted matte gold bead, sequin and domed embellishments. All applied to form flourishes of foliage like motifs.

Leather straps with metal buckles to fasten at the shoulder and side. Made for French opera costume. A really exquisite piece made to a very high standard. Lined in cotton twill.

Measures: 22 1/2” underarm to underarm, 15” shoulders, 31” long in the body, 8” from shoulder to underarm at the arm opening

Condition: overall really great. One metal buckle piece has come off on the side closure. I have it, so it’s included but the leather piece needs stitching on. There are a few missing gold metal domed pieces and a couple are loose and need stitching back in place. . Some of the applied metal woven trim has broken in small areas. there is a very small 4mm rust mark on the left waist area. The lining has some marks and a hole at the bottom which runs through to the first wool layer but doesn’t go through to the top layer.
